Realize Beauty came into being one balmy evening in February 2008. I had left the corporate cosmetics world two months before and had been playing with ideas relating to my feelings towards the beauty industry, natural cosmetics and science. I had this idea that I could make people see that science wasn’t all bad, that chemicals weren’t all toxic and that people within the cosmetics industry weren’t all related to Dr Evil. I also thought that if I worked hard enough I could also help people to see their natural beauty, taking away the  ’fear’ factor that drives so many cosmetic dollars and replacing it with empowerment and fun.

 My mission started to take shape, I would seek to educate and entertain my readers with chatty, accessible and personable science journalism. I would hold their hands as they grappled with scientific terminology, ingredients listings and conflicting information. I would respect their fears, concerns and motivations and I would listen more than I talked. Further, I would tell them that it is OK to be themselves, to not wear any make-up, not spend thousands on hair extensions, tan or whiten their skin or fight their natural ageing process. I would also help them to understand that the process of beautification isn’t trivial and that if it is done without fear it can be  liberating and life-affirming, exhuberant and polished.

I would be their sister, I would love them and they would in turn love themselves.

I had big ambitions and still do…..

Realize Beauty has blossomed into a fun and sometimes challenging blog, consulting and writing business. I have become we as we branch out to include different skill sets, ideas and experiences. We have a book that is about to launch and are busy helping our ever growing family of clients build and maintain sustainable, personable and responsible beauty brands and businesses.

Realize Beauty believes that there is another way to enjoy the art and business of beautification, a way that is in harmony with your natural instincts and passions.
