Is It Possible To Grow Longer Lashes?
Eyelashes are BIG business, we want them longer, stronger, neatly curled and beautifully coloured. If the old cliche of the eyes being the windows to the soul is still valid we want our souls guarded by a generous display of neatly presented lashes, the bigger, the better!
The recent beauty expo in Sydney showcased a number of different methods for achieving “the look”. We spoke to companies who could aid you in faking it through their glue on individual lashes and companies who could enhance what nature gave you through lash thickening mascara’s. Then there were the companies supplying eyelash dyes, ridding you of the need for mascara – at least for a few weeks BUT the most exciting find of the expo was the company promising to grow you longer lashes! We spoke to them to find out a bit more…..
Bamboo Lashes caught my attention even before we entered the expo. I had been reading about eyelash growing products for a while and had been following the discussions coming out of the US surrounding Lilash and its rival RevitaLash which was sued by Allergen for patent infringement along with MD Lash Factor and Age Intervention Eyelash. None of these are readily available in Australia due to issues with their ingredients (Aussies have been trying it though if the Vogue and Adore Beauty forums are anything to go by). These products seem quite expensive at around $175 for a pack lasting around 8 week however when compared to the cost of keeping up fake lashes the price becomes quite reasonable. The added bonus with these products is the benefit of being able to “do it yourself” in the comfort of you own bathroom!
Bamboo lashes comes in a mascara like pack and is applied via a brush to the eye lashes once or twice a day. The eyelashes should start to grow immediately, with a good result visible within 4-6 weeks. One pack contains enough for up to 8 weeks of applications, depending on how often and how much you apply. Shall we take a look at the ingredients?

The formulation is huge, contains lots of tongue twisting ingredients and is marketed as being natural without using the term chemical free (which is good as nothing is chemical free). Although the product does contain some natural ingredients,it is worth noting that this product took a bit more putting together than just picking bamboo off a tree – no big drama!
Without going into masses of details the product contains a few conditioning agents and additives that work to add volume to hair – rather like the ingredients found in volumising hair conditioners or styling products (polyquaternium 67, Hydroxyethyl Behenamidopropyl Dimonium Chloride and more). These will give the instant gratification of making your lashes look fuller and thicker!
Secondly there are the true actives – the things that have been proved to positively affect hair growth. Things like Apigenin (a plant flavinoid), Oleanoic Acid (also plant based), Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1 (also plant based) . The latter extract is also found in hair growth products such as minoxyil and has been proven to stimulate the hair follicles. There is also a little Keratin growth factor but I imagine that it is present in such small volume that it doesn’t do an awful lot.
Thirdly there are the botanical extracts that offer some conditioning / nutritive properties but are mainly there as the little bit of magic. These are the Bamboo extract, Apple Extract, English Ash tree etc.
Lastly are the bits and pieces that hold it all together such as the shea butter, the emulsifiers, the preservatives and humectants (water binders) and a few other bits and pieces making it quite a complicated formulation!
As to the question of whether this product works, the proof should be in the pudding. We have set Sharon off on a 6 week trial run to put the product through its paces. Based on the products chemistry, the patent data and the feedback from other users around the world there is no reason why this product shouldn’t work so I look forward to seeing the pictures. As with all products that are applied to the eye area, take care and if your skin or eye becomes irritated stop using the product immediately!

UPDATE: Well, there are lots of comments below about Revitalash and most of them are coming from spammers. I have no reason to think that Revitalash is any better or worse than the product we tested so I would encourage you to make you own mind up and take no notice of the poorly disgised endorsements below – I only let it run to see what would happen but now I’m bored!

I have found a product that’s safe and works—Revitalash, which is mentioned in your blog posting. It was one of the first eyelash growth products to hit the market and I’m a big fan. I never realized what a difference long lashes made to the face, but I get comments all the time. Try their mascara, too!!

It is amazing what a difference lashes make to your face… I started using Revitalash in April and I get comments all the time now. People say my eyes look more beautiful and I look more awake or they aren’t sure what is different but they know I look good!!I also really like how the company started… The eye doctor that created Revitalash has a wife that had undergone chemo and she had zero lashes and thanks to him she does now. It’s so sweet!!
i use Revitalash too! and i love it.. been using it for almost 6 months now. i can attest to this! long curly lashes really makes the eyes pop and eye expressions are emphasized.
I tried Revitalash before and although I my lashes were growing, I had no idea that just like Latisse, Revitalash has a prostaglandin. Prostaglandins (just like all the disclosures in Latisse) have SERIOUS side effects. Do you really want to use a product where there are no long term studies and where there are known published and definite side effects? I have heard that the prostaglandin they use is now an FDA drug. Its like that other product I have heard of – Rapid Lash- that uses another prostaglandin that is used by vetrinarians and administered to farm animals to induce abortions. Who lets these people put us at risk? My doctor was adamant, DO NOT USE ANY PRODUCT NEAR YOUR EYES THAT HAVE PROSTAGLANDINS unless you are being seen regularly by an OPTHAMOLOGIST– not a plastic surgeon, not a cosmetic surgeon and not a general practicioner.
You can say what you will about these lash products with Prostaglandins but ask your own doctor and read the disclaimers and then decide if its really worth it to take the risk when you can use natural products.
You are right to be concerned as prostaglandins can cause many side effects. However, Bamboo lash is one brand that doesn’t contain this type of hair growth promoter. If in doubt please see your opthamologist as every eye and eyelash is different!
I’ve been using the eyelash conditioner by Revitalash for about a year now. Ever since I used it from the very first time I never felt any irritations and discomforts. To have longer lashes is no longer impossible these days. There are products that can enhance your lashes to fuller and longer. I tried it myself and was amazed. I used Revitalash for my lashes and it did great. I got the results that I ever wanted for so long. I’m glad that I tried Revitalash first, it’s like I hit the jackpot.

Woow!! I was surprised, I’m using revitalash for my lashes as well and just like Nadia, it really changed my lashes gorgeously. My sisters kept asking me what I applied to my lashes and told them it’s revitalash.
Hi Gina and Nadia! You are absolutely correct. Revitalash is the only reason why my brittle and dull lashes, are now looking fuller, darker and healthier. I’ve been using it for a year and a half for now and noticed the changes after 5-6 weeks of using it. You’ll just have to be patient and that’s all it takes.
I agree, with Revitalash you can have stunning lashes that you ever wanted. It may take some time but its really worth the wait!!!
I have used many brands of eyelashes products, MLM, OTC, prescribe and etc. Since i started Revitalash 3 months ago, I don’t think I will or need to look for other products for my eyelashes anymore. Revitalash gives me exactly what I always wanted; long, dark and thick eyelashes.
Heard so much about Revitalash and decided to get one for myself 3 weeks back from a local mall. The result is just fantastic. Never thought a not so expensive product can actually change the look on eyelashes and Revitalash surely makes mine look so good.
I really want to have longer and fuller lashes. I’ve heard about the product Maximumlash and read promising reviews. I tried it and I’m om my 3rd week right now but I didn’t see any results yet. I can’t wait to see the difference.
Great choice Vera. You might not see a difference in 3 weeks but definitely you will see them next couple of weeks. I’ve proaved it myself. It worked for me in 4-6 weeks. Just a week more!!!
yeah that right julie. I saw difference in my lashes on the 6th week already and its not that long if you imagine. To wait for that to have luscious lashes is never a regret, its an accomplishment.
I as well is using revitalash eyelash conditioner for my eyelashes. My sister recommended it to me before for my short, brittle and fragile lashes and because of revitalash it’s now naturally enhanced looking healthier and fuller. Great product. I extremely recommend it to you girls.
Like Diana, For me, RevitaLashEyelash Conditioner is best and I’m very much happy for my fantastic lashes now. I tried a number of eyelash conditioners some are good but we can’t say which is best for us until we try them. So now I am using RevitaLash and so far I love it. No irritations or rashes. How about you ladies, are you satisfied of what you are using now?
im happy that I have good results on revitalashthan other brand. Only this brand made my lashes long and thick without any irritation or itchiness. I believe this product will last and become more successful.
I was a sore loser when I was a kid. But now I think I hit the jackpot! Maximumlash made my face look gorgeous. With my stunning lashes, I felt I won the biggest reality show ever.

Always envy those with long thick eyelashes so decided to look for enhancer. My saloon recommended Revitalash 6 months ago and My eyelashes has grown so much since.

it looks like that is a lively debate on Revitalash and maximumlash users on this blog. From my experience and feedback from friendsa nd family, Revitalash seems to be doing a better work. Well, ladies, it is a better product.
