New Product Range Review – Baji

March 2, 2012

Behind every brand there is a dream, an ambition, a desire and a belief that this is a story worth telling and the story behind Baji skin care is one of family.

Anjelina had tried everything to ease her eldest child’s eczema until one day she stumbled across rose hip oil and had a revelation.  The fact that something so simple and natural could ease her child’s pain where countless pharmaceutical preparations had failed opened her eyes to the world of natural personal care and from then she started experimenting.

These days rose hip based skin treatments are plentiful but fifteen years ago natural skin care was the stuff of health stores and boutiques only. The green revolution and Anjelina’s skin care ambitions were only just beginning…..

Keen to learn more Anjelina enrolled in a University course covering biomedical techniques to build up her science literacy and skills. This plus another five years of research, investment and product development  (not to mention all of the blood, sweat and tears) culminated earlier this year in the birth of the Baji brand. The brand is built on a sense of place and respect for the natural environment. Born and raised in Australia the range is rich in native botanicals that have adapted to the sometimes harsh and always challenging environment over many thousands of years.  These plants carry with them an intelligence and natural ability to protect, nourish and strengthen cells from the inside out thanks to their high vitamin, essential fatty acid and antioxidant content -qualities that are warmly welcomed in anti-aging and protective skin care.

So what did I try?

I was lucky enough to receive a pack of goodies to try out that included two beautifully smelling facial spritzers – the sandalwood smells just blissful, a bronzing shimmer gel, moisture milk, clay mask and cleanser.

The spritzers felt good, not too sticky and minimal soaping upon spraying. Also the aromas were well-balanced and strong enough to smell yet not overbearing.  So, the first is a blend of Sandalwood (calming, balancing and soothing and kakadu plum (very high in vitamin C). There is also some sodium Hyaluronate to help the skin to retain moisture, some witch hazel for skin toning  and some beautiful organic sweet orange oil.  The second is a more delicate blend of Rose and Kakadu plumb which is great for every skin type as it is so light. The rose also comes through as light and sweet rather than heavy and powdery which makes a lovely change.

The product that I liked the most was the clay mask with tea tree powder as it gave a light tingle to the skin as the mud set and then a gentle exfoliation upon rinsing.  I especially like the way that the exfoliant choice re-enforces the Australian story of the brand – something that I feel passionate about!

The bronzing gel has a slightly odd texture being quite jelly like but the light coverage is perfect for those looking to spritz things up for a night out.  The formulation is quite simple and is unlikely to be irritating so would probably be a good one to try if you want something funky but can’t stand fake tan.

The moisture milk was a little too smelly for my liking and so I only used it on my legs but it soaked in well and left my legs looking smooth and hydrated all day which was a bonus.  I am not exactly sure what the smell is but believe it has something to do with the blend of rosehip and blue cypress – both of which are great for the skin so please feel free to ignore me and try it anyway!

Finally the cleansing face wash with Kakadu Plum has s good consistency and feels highly concentrated so a little goes a long way. The surfactant blend used in this product is of high quality and has been picked from the ‘low irritant’ shelf which is a bonus.  The product also contains Lilly Pilly, Quandong and Sandalwood Oil, none of which are cheap ingredients and to be retailing at $12.99 for 120ml I think that’s a steal!

Why not try it for yourself?

In A Nutshell:

Australian Made skin care jam-packed with ancient natural wisdom from Kakadu Plum, Quandong, Lilly Pilly and Sandalwood Oil.

Iam using this product which i bought by word of mouth, and i loved it. The mask and exfoliation is the best i have used so far. And the moisturiser is wonderfully light. Little bit of cleanser works perfectly and i realise that i do not need to apply too much of any of this product. Great product !
