You are what you wear.

An interesting experiment has just come to a conclusion here in Australia.  One of our most popular TV breakfast show duo’s, Lisa Wilkinson and Karl Stefanovic have just confirmed what we all knew but dare not say and that is this:

If you are a woman you will be be judged primarily on what you wear and how you look.

In seeing how roughly his female comrades were treated by the media about what they wore to work each day Karl decided to wear the same suit each day for a whole year.  He managed it easily, not a thing was said, no murmurs, twitters, trash magazine column inches or chattering by the water coolers was heard.  It was the internet equivalent of a tumbleweed moment.

Lisa, on the other hand received comments by the bucket load during the same period ‘wearing that again I see’,  ‘what on earth was she thinking’,  ‘looking good today’ and so on and so forth.  No matter whether she was interviewing a leading politician or a girl next door the focus was on what she wore and not what she said.

This SUCKS.

We really are a bunch of idiots at times aren’t we?

And what SUCKS more than the big picture of suckiness is the fact that many of these nasty comments were from WOMEN.

And yes, we expected that but we DIDN’T WANT IT CONFIRMED – it is too sad.

Girl power?

Can we stop for a minute and let the simple truth of what has happened here sink in please?
